Norocul băiatului se schimbă atunci când este adoptat de către soţii Leigh Anne şi Sean Touhy, care îi oferă un cămin stabil şi îmbelşugat, multă iubire şi compasiune şi o educaţie corespunzătoare, înscriindu-l la un colegiu la care obţine o bursă sportivă. Îndrumat de către noii părinţi, Michael Oher dobândeşte încredere în forţele proprii şi este capabil să îşi valorifice potenţialul, agilitatea, viteza, conştiinciozitatea şi puterea de care dă dovadă impunându-l în atenţia multor antrenori de fotbal de la colegiu. În cele din urmă, tânărul de culoare este selectat în echipa Baltimore Ravens şi are şansa de a juca în campionatul american de fotbal profesionist.
